Anna began her tenure in scouting as a Girl Scout Leader in 1988. She held many volunteer positions within Girl Scouts including trainer for the following thirteen years. Her introduction to Boy Scouts was as a Merit Badge Counselor in 1992 when the newly-chartered troop at her church needed a counselor for First Aid. The following year, her oldest son began as a Tiger and three years later, her youngest son began as a Tiger. Anna chose to join the Pack Committee as FOS Chair and assisted elsewhere as needed. When the boys crossed over into the Troop, she became a member of the Troop Committee. Over the years, she became a counselor for additional merit badges. Somewhere around 2001, Anna became committee chair for Troop 514. In 2002, she became a committee member of Crew 514 and later became committee chair. She continues to hold both positions.

As volunteer duties with Girl Scouts wound down, Anna’s volunteer activities with the Boy Scouts grew. She became a Unit Commissioner and then an Assistant District Commissioner for the Apalachee District. Her commissioner duties expanded to the Exploring & Venturing District as well. Anna held the position of Exploring & Venturing District Commissioner for two years. She has also earned her Doctorate of Commissioner Science with her thesis How to Conduct a Mock Emergency Event.

Early on, Anna began helping in the training arena, especially first aid, Scoutmaster Specific Training and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills. She is also one of the lead instructors for the Wilderness First Aid courses sponsored by the NEGA Council. The opportunity finally arose for her to attend Wood Badge in spring of 2005, a Bobwhite from SR-684! She became a Wood Badge staffer in 2007 and was tapped as Course Director in 2011, S9-101-26.

Anna attended Powder Horn in 2005. She was asked to be a staff member of the courses held in 2007, 2009, and 2011 and is extremely excited to be your course director in 2012! Anna has been to Northern Tier with Crew 514 for a canoeing trek and Sea Base this summer for a week of scuba diving with Troop 514. She was a staff member for the 2010 National Jamboree. She will be leading the council’s contingent Venturing Crew in 2013 to the National Jamboree…the first to be held at The Summit in West Virginia.

Anna has received numerous recognitions including District Award of Merit, Venturing Leader Award and Silver Beaver. Training and helping others has always been a passion for her, but pales in comparison to what Boy Scouts has given to her family. Both of her boys are Eagle Scouts and all three of her children are successful due in large part to the influence scouting has had in their lives. She is looking forward to the next generation as her oldest grandson becomes a Tiger scout in one more year. All of Anna’s volunteer efforts are made possible and supported by her husband, Alan, who she credits with much of her success.
